Join Hands Across the Sand coming to a Beach near you on Saturday June 26th at 11:00 am

Oil Drilling threatens our Beaches, Marine Life, Waterways and Coastlines with the devastation and destruction of oil disasters.
Let's all join hands and draw a line in the sand to let the world know that we will do everything in our power to protect our our beautiful and bountiful beaches and natural habitats.
Please join us on our area beaches for the "Hands Across the Sand" event taking place on Saturday JUNE 26th from 11:00 am - 12:15 p.m. It is inly about an hour commitment of your time but those 15 minutes of unity and solidarity will speak volumes to the powers that be.
This cooperative social action will be made up of people from all walks of life, will cross political affiliations and will take place in geographic locations all around the world. It is not about politics; This movement is not partisan; it is about protection of our coastal economies, oceans, marine wildlife, fishing industry and coastal military missions. It's about saying no to the devastation and destruction that an oil disaster can cause.
Let's make it clear to our government representatives that we're ready to get off of oil and dirty energy permanently and allocate resources towards the development of clean energy technologies.
Now is the time to keep the pressure on our political leaders.
Come out and join thousands of people across the country (and around the globe) as they come together on their local beaches, all joining hands, to show our leaders that we demand a change.
Won't you please help us create what could become the largest gathering against offshore oil drilling in history!
We hope to see you all there and please remember to spread the word to all of your family, friends and colleagues too!
We are asking everyone (whether you can come to the beach for the event or not), to also make a personal commitment to reduce their own energy consumption (and carbon footprint) 20% by taking immediate action. The less energy we use, the greater our oil independence can become. Making some simple changes and modifying some behaviors can have tremendous impact and make a big difference. Please refer to the article "50 Things You Can Do Right Now to Reduce Carbon and Help the Environment" where you'll find lots of ideas that you can implement in your life right now.
Check out this video from one of the Florida beaches during the last Hands Across the Sand Event in February 2010. Let's make a commitment to get a huge turnout here in SWFL to make a really powerful statement !
What to do for the Hands Acrosss the Sand Event
With the concept of using less oil and petroleum-based products being core to this widespread action, everyone is encouraged to join hands at the beach closest to them and where possible, to try to carpool, bike or walk to the event!!
Please bring any food or beverages you may carry with you in non-petroleum-based products and leave only your footprints behind!
We will be gathering at the following local beaches and need your participation to make this a successful happening.
