788 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Naples Florida 34108

In preparation for 10/10/10 "U Gotta Go Green" Eco-Extravaganza at the Mercato in Naples, Art Ritas will be leading a discussion at the Vanderbilt Branch of the Public Library about "Eaarth - Making a Life on a Tough New Planet" by Bill McKibben. "Eaarth" is a fairly recently published, important book on the impact of carbon emissions on the environment and climate change. McKibben works with the 350.org which is the international organization behind the 10/10/10 Global Work Party being scheduled all around the world simultaneously, on October 10th, 2010!
A consumer reviewer posted this comment on Amazon.com - "The front cover of Bill McKibbean's "Eaarth" contains a quote by Barbara Kingsolver urging the reader to drop everything and read the book straight through. What Kingsolver doesn't mention is that once you begin reading the book it'll be impossible to stop."
Watch this video to see Bill McKibben discuss his book and talk about the10/10/10 event! This is going to be big and you will want to be a part of it...make sure to join us at the Mercato on October 10th, 2010 from 10 am - 4 pm to help us send a clear message to our local leaders here in SWFL!
Here is a brief excerpt from the New York times Review of "Eaarth"
“Eaarth” is the name McKibben has decided to assign both to his new book and to the planet formerly known as Earth. His point is a fresh one that brings the reader uncomfortably close to climate change. Earth with one “a,” according to McKibben, no longer exists. We have carbonized it out of existence. "Two-a" Eaarth is now our home. On "two-a" Eaarth, we are way past the bearable threshold — 350 parts per million — for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, and well down the road to a devastating 650 parts per million. Our planet’s vital signs are already weakening
